To lead our church well, we anchor our team culture in five core values:
Music Ministry
Thank you for your interest in serving with the Worship Team! Music at Redeemer is more than just making great sound; it is an act of congregational leadership, spiritual service, and devotion to God.
Whether we are singing modern worship anthems or rich, timeless hymns, our heart’s goal is to serve our congregation, lift up the name of Jesus, and glorify God together.
Our Core Team Values
Heart of a Worshipper (Spiritual Maturity)
We serve out of our devotion to God, not for applause or personal expression. We seek to grow in our relationship with Jesus through regular prayer, Scripture engagement, and involvement in the life of the church beyond Sunday mornings.
Humility & Service (A Servant's Mindset)
We serve the congregation, the songs, and each other. We aim to hold our roles lightly, put the church’s worship ahead of personal preference, and remain teachable and receptive to feedback.
Excellence & Preparation (Stewardship of Talent)
God deserves our best, and preparation shows love for our team. We come to rehearsals having practised our parts individually so that rehearsals can focus on unity, dynamics, and leading well.
Reliability & Commitment (Team Support)
A healthy team depends on clear communication and dependability. We honour our commitments, show up on time, and communicate prompt responses to scheduling requests (such as unavailability on ChurchSuite).
Community & Unity (Relational Care)
We are a strong-team before we are a band. We prioritise supporting, praying for, and encouraging one another both from the front of church and outside of church.
How to Join: Our Onboarding Process
Step 1: Initial Interest & Questionnaire
Complete our short online interest form. This helps us get to know your spiritual background, your involvement at Redeemer Edinburgh, and your musical background. The answers don’t need to be long, just a flavour of what you’d bring to the team.
Step 2: Musical Assessment (Coaching Audition)
We view auditions as a coaching space, not a high-stress trial.
-
We will send you resources (chord charts and video) in advance so you can prepare – take a look at the onboarding set here.
-
You’ll play or sing through 1–2 songs with a small group or team lead.
-
We’ll provide clear, constructive feedback and outline the best next step for you (e.g., immediate onboarding, short-term practice goals, or an alternative serve area).
Step 3: Onboarding & First Serve
Once you join the team:
-
Shadowing: You will play with a strong band for 1–2 services to observe, play/sing along without being depended upon, get accustomed to the way things work, and get to know the team.
-
Join the rota: After you feel comfortable, you will be scheduled for Sunday services into the band rota.
-
Follow-up & Ongoing Growth: We’ll check in after your first few services to make sure you are setting in well, are well supported and answer any questions you might have.
Tips for success
- Keep it simple: aim to do the simple things really well rather than playing or singing something complicated or flashy
- Strive for excellence: try to do your best and constantly seek to improve your skill. In the context of congregational worship, excellence means being dependable and knowing when to play more and when to play less
- Find your place in the mix: each instrument or vocal occupies a frequency space and each rhythm occupies a subdivision space. The more people there are in a band, the more you’ll have to think about how to play, which octave to play and how much to play.
